Stilt fishing at mirissa | Unawatuna Beach
In addition to the blue whale watching at the neary town of mirissa, fisher folk plant sticks into the shallow water and sitting on a crotch on the stick small variety of fish are caught. these fishermen known as “stilt fishermen” spend many an hour catching the fish one by one. they look like a flock of one legged birds with their straw hats and the fishing rods. since recently you too can join them but must be warned to learn to sit on a piece of stick (maybe about 8 inches) for more than an hour or so.
