Galle fort | Unawatuna Beach

This builiding was built first in 1588 by the portuguese,in the bay of galle on the south east coast of sri lanka.then it was extensively fortified by the dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards.the heritage value of this magnificent fort has been recognized by the unesco & has been declared as an archeological reserve by it.still it appears nicely due to the great job done by the archaeological department of sri lanka.it is built on a small rocky peninsula,belonging to the sea as much as to the land.it covers an area of 52 hectares (130 acres).the dutch church inside the fort has underground tunnels reaching the town to escape in an emergency.
